Zaragoza Hurricanes stun Spanish football with huge upset win over Osos Rivas

The Zaragoza Hurricanes staged the upset of the season this past weekend knocking off title contenders Osos Rivas 23-6 in late round action in the Spanish League of American Football.
This was the first win of the season for the lowly Hurricanes who had suffered a lopsided loss to the Osos earlier in the season.
Zaragoza struck early on their very first possession as quarterback Carlos Rogers hit speedy wideout Juan Baro streaking down the sideline for a 70 yard touchdown. Then, still in the first quarter, the Hurricanes defense rose up forcing a safety to increase the lead to 8-0. The Osos offense, without starting quarterback Norman Douglas Jr, sputtered.

The Hurricanes took the ball over following the kickoff at their own 22 yard line and struck again. First Rogers found a his tight end for a 70 yard gain down to the eight yard line. Then he hit Baro again for a touchdown. The two point conversion was good and suddenly Zaragoza held a 16-0 lead still in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Osos finally responded as backup quarterback Adrián Meléndez found Iván Iordanov for a 48 yard touchdown to narrow the lead to 16-6.
Zaragoza extended the lead before the break when Rogers punched the ball in himself from four yards out to give his team a 23-6 lead.
The second half saw the defenses take over as the rain intensified. Neither team could penetrate the red zone with the football becoming harder and harder to grip.
In the end, the Hurricanes celebrated their first win of the season while Osos Rivas fall to 4-3, their worst record in a decade.
