The Hildesheim Invaders in the German Football League, the top American football league in Europe, have re-signed quarterback Zach Cavanaugh for the 2017 season.
Cavanaugh helped the Invaders to a successful first year in the German league in 2016.
Cavanaugh threw for 2,778 yards and 28 touchdowns in the Invaders 14 games, averaging just under 200 yards per game. The Invaders finished fifth in the very tough German North division with a 5-9 record enabling them to stay in the league.
Against the Hamburg Huskies on June 25, Cavanaugh enjoyed his best day, throwing for 300 yards and five touchdowns in the Invaders 76-49 blowout win.
This will mark Cavanaugh’s fifth season in Germany. Before playing for Hildesheim in 2016, he has played quarterback for the Paderborn Dolphins, Troisdorf Jets and Cottbus Crayfish in Germany’s Div 2 and 3.
The 6’2, 185 lb Cavanaugh finished his college career with the Curry College Colonels (NCAA Div. III) in Milton, Massachusetts.
