In the only game this weekend in Poland, the 3-0 Wroclaw Panthers will be aiming to keep their unbeaten streak alive when they face the 2-1 Bydgoszcz Archers on Saturday, October 10.
The Panthers have rolled through the season without being threatened scoring 214 points in four games (including against Germany’s Dresden Monarchs) while allowing just 21. Last week they blanked the Warsaw Mets 62-0. They have also rolled over the Silesia Rebels 52-7 and opened the year with a 52-0 blanking of the Falcons. Meanwhile, the Archers have beaten the Warsaw Mets and Silesia Rebels while losing 49-24 to the Bialystok Lowlanders.
To stop Wroclaw, the Archers defense must first corral Panthers running back Ryan Tuiasoa who is having a banner season. He has scored 11 touchdowns in the four games including two in last week’s 62-0 win over the Warsaw Mets. Quarterback Bartosz Dziedzic has looked impressive as well and the defense features Canadian Football League rush end Thiadric Hansen who will create all kinds of problems for Archers quarterback Dustin Hawke Willingham. German offensive tackle Sven Breidenbach gives the backfield lots of security.
With the addition of linebacker Kadel King, the Archers defense immediately improved. Fresh off winning the Finnish title with the Kuopio Steelers, King gives an air of confidence to the front seven. The matchup between him and Tuiasoa will be interesting to watch. Hawke Willingham is a veteran quarterback and not easily rattled and should be able to deal with the pressure that Hansen will bring.
