World Flag Football Championships to be staged in Denmark in 2020
The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) has announced that the 2020 World Flag Football Championships will be staged in Denmark.
The tournament returns to Europe following two editions in the Americas.
IFAF President Richard MacLean welcomed the announcement.
“IFAF is pleased to announce that Denmark will play host to the world’s best Flag Football players next summer. Denmark has a rich heritage in Flag Football. Their proven ability to deliver International sporting events combined with a passionate football community will make this a championship that our member nations and fans around the world will be very excited about.”
Lars Carlsen, Head of Sports in the Danish American Football Federation, spoke of the pride of the Danish federation as they look forward to staging the World Championship.
“We are passionate about the sport and look forward to welcoming a host of the best national teams from around the world to participate in the World Championship 2020. Denmark has great traditions especially on the men’s side, where we have in the top for several European and World Championships, the Danish men’s team were bronze medalists last time around in Panama, and we look forward to be able show the Danish fans first-hand the Danish teams compete against some of the absolute best national teams in the world.”
Carlsen continued
“As we have participated in all the European and world championships we have seen the tournaments grow and get better every time around, the latest being in 2018 where Panama put on a fantastic event. It will be hard to beat, but we will do our very best to put together the best ever Flag Football World Championships.”
“Alongside leaving a positive impression for visiting players and fans It is hoped that the Flag Football World Championship will leave a legacy whereby we can attract even more players to the fantastic sport” he concluded.
Registration for the Championships will open this fall and close in early 2020.
