Wild Boars Win Serbian Bowl XII
The Kragujevac Wild Boars capped a remarkable turnaround season by defeating arch rivals SBB Vukovi Belgrade 53-29 Sunday to capture the Serbian championship for the first time since 2010 and the fifth time overall.
The Wild Boars had lost to Vukovi in the finals four times since that 2010 win and then lost to them earlier in the regular season so this was definitely sweet revenge. Kragujevac has suffered through a subpar season in 2015 and was eliminated in the semifinals..
Wild Boars running back Andreas Betza was the spearhead and caused most of the damage as he ravaged Vukvoi for six touchdowns. The French transfer from the Thonon Black Panthers was unstoppable scoring five touchdowns on the ground and another on a pass from quarterback Jammie Blunt.
Blunt threw two touchdown passes while Petar Goić kicked two field goals and five PATS in the win.
Vukovi quarterback John Uribe threw four touchdown passes and Tony Washington caught three of them as Belgrade suffered its second straight loss in the Serbian championship game.
Uribe opened the scoring with touchdown pass to Marija Lugonja and the two teams then traded blows. Betza scored two of his six touchdowns and Blunt found Gabriel Chambers late in the half to give the Wild Boars a 26-17 lead at the break.
Then Betza took over in the second half scoring from nine yards out to extend the lead to 33-17 and then ripping off a 99 yard touchdown run to up the score to 40-17. Although Uribe connected with Washington to close the gap to 40-23 the writing was on the wall.
Betza continued his destruction in the fourth quarter as he caught a 16 yard touchdown pass from Blunt and then found another seam and scampered 25 yards for his final touchdown of the game for a 53-23 Kragujevac lead.
Uribe found Washington again for the final score of the game and the Wild Boars celebrated a 53-29 victory.
