Ancona returns to Milano for second straight week, looks to get back on track.
In week 3 of Italy’s Football Americano I Division, the Ancona Dolphins (1-1) face the Milano Seamen (2-0) live from Stadio G. Brera in Pero near Milan, Italy at 6p CET (1p EDT).
Last week, the defending their Italian champion Milano Rhinos whippped the Ancona Dophins 33-7. Head coach Chris Ault has his team humming already as they dismantled a Dolphins squad on the road. This was an Ancona team that had gone undefeated in the regular season in 2016 and had been barely beaten in their playoff loss to the Bolzano Giants. Ancona had opened the season by beating Firenze Guelfi handily, and now looks to get back on the victorious path versus the Seamen in week 3.
The Milano Seamen enter this week’s contest undefeated. Their opening weekend lopsided win over the Roma Grizzlies, and last weekend the Seamen scored 28 unanswered second half points behind the arm of quarterback Luke Zahradka to down the Bergamo Lions 38-7. The Seamen’s defense played superb football as Bergamo’s lone touchdown came on a 100 yard pick six in the first half. In fact, the defense, under defensive coordinator Randy Beverly, has not allowed a touchdown as both touchdowns scored against the Seamen have been off of interceptions.
After the first two weeks of the season in I Divisione of the Italian Football League, the Milano Seamen (along with the Lazio Marines) have moved out in front each with 2-0 records. The Seamen’s offense has produced 79 points in two games to top the league, with the Ancona Dolphins at 1-1 in second with 50 points scored.
Ancona’s Ryan Kasdorf has jumped out to lead all quarterbacks in Italy in passing yardage with 497 yards and five touchdowns. Michele Marchini has been the key target for Ancona’s quarterback Ryan Kasdorf and has racked up 223 yards and two touchdowns in two games to lead all receivers. Milano’s Zahradka is tied in second in the league with 412 yards and 5 touchdowns.
