The Comisión Nacional Deportiva Estudiantil de Instituciones Privadas, A.C. (CONADEIP) (Private university league) in Mexico kicks off its semifinals Saturday as the 7-3 Toluca Borregos under head coach Horacio Garcia take on the 6-4 defending champion Monterrey Borregos guided by head coach Carlos Altamirano at Estadio La Congeladora in Toluca, Mexico.
The winner of this game will advance to the CONADEIP final for only their second time in history.
The two teams split the season series with Toluca taking the first game on October 1 32-20. Then Monterrey returned the favor a month later beating Toluca 17-7. Monterrey leads the overall series between these two teams 28-5.
Toluca quarterback Maximiliano Lara threw for 2,138 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season while Alejandro Gonzalez of Monterrey threw for 1,459 yards and 15 touchdowns for a 52% completion average.
The winner of this game will move on to face either the UDLAP Aztecas or the Puebla Borregos who play in the other semifinal.
