Just days after guiding his team to the first win of the season, head coach Val Gunn has been forced to leave the club for personal reasons.
Gunn took over as head coach of the Mercenaries in mid April and was tasked with assembling a team basically within the space of a month as the season started May 25. He did so while also handling all the duties normally performed by the general manager as well as dealing with many other staff duties.
After suffering five straight losses, Gunn guided the Mercenaries to their first ever win this past weekend when they defeated the Milano Seamen 16-10.
The current defensive coordinator Brian Billy will take over as interim head coach.
