According to TSN and 3 Down Nation, the Canadian Football League has decided to ban players who cannot travel (unvaccinated) with their teams, from playing in the CFL playoffs and the Grey Cup.
The league made the decision that if a player is not able to travel to road games with the team after the Canadian government introduces its rule on vaccinations for air and rail travel on November 30, he will be placed on a suspended list and will receive no pay for the games he has missed.
The only games affected by this new government policy are the Division finals on December 5 and the Grey Cup on December 12.
According to the collective bargaining agreement with the CFL Players Association, the league is unable to mandate that players be vaccinated.
This ban on traveling extends to air and rail travel while bus travel remains unaffected.
So conceivably, teams in the East could travel by bus to playoff games and the Grey Cup which is being held in Hamilton.
For teams in the West, the situation is a little tougher. The choice would be that you either fly to the game and leave unvaccinated players at home, or travel by bus and take everyone. Since Winnipeg will clinch first place in the West, that will be the site of the Western Final. The shortest bus ride for a team would be six hours (Regina to Winnipeg) while if the BC Lions were to play in the Western Final, it would take them 39 hours to reach Winnipeg by bus.
Getting to the Grey Cup for a team from the West is another story altogether.
