Top 4 seeds cruise into semifinals in Australia’s Gridiron Victoria playoffs
The top four seeds in the Gridiron Victoria quarterfinals easily won their matchups this past weekend and advanced to the semifinals.
Western Crusaders 46 – Ballarat Falcons 3
The #1 ranked Western Crusaders had no trouble downing the #8 seeded Ballarat Falcons, whipping them 46-3. The Crusaders had defeated Ballarat by an almost identical score, 40-6, earlier in the season.
The Crusaders will now take on the Croydon Rangers in the semifinals on November 10.
Melbourne University Royals 57 – South Eastern Predators 0
The Royals entered the contest as the #2 seed and wasted no time in taking control of the game. South Eastern, the #7 seed, had come into the game winning three of their last four contests but Melbourne U, who had beaten the Predators 20-0 six weeks ago, dashed all the Predators hopes early on en route to an overwhelming win.
The Royals now move on to face the Monash Warriors in the semifinals on November 10.
Monash Warriors – 44 – Bendigo Dragons 0
Monash (#3) scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and then cruised to an easy 44-0 win over the #6 seeded Beindigo Dragons. The Warriors had beaten Bendigo 42-31 last month and this game was expected to be even closer. But Monash erased any doubts early on.
The Warriors will now face the Melbourne University Royals in the semifinal round, November 10.
Croydon Rangers 40 – Geelong Buccaneers 7
The #4 Croydon Rangers ended the #5 seeded Geelong Buccaneers season abruptly with a 40-7 pounding of the visitors. The score was almost identical to the 39-0 blanking the Rangers had handed Geelong last month.
The Rangers will now face the Western Crusaders in the semifinals on November 10.
