Team Austria demonstrated why they belong among the elite nations in Europe this past Saturday in manhandling Switzerland 66-0 in the first round of Group A action in an IFAF 2020 European Championship qualifier.
In the game played in Chur, Switzerrland, home of the Swiss champion Calanda Broncos, Austria took control early over an undermanned Swiss squad and never let up.
The Austrians dashed the hopes of the Swiss fans on the opening kickoff, returning it all the way for a touchdown.
By the time the dust settled at the end of the first half, Austria held a 49-0 lead.
Austria added another two touchdowns plus a field goal in the second half.
Team Austria head coach Shuan Fatah:
“We got off very well and made a good start to the European Championship. The guys have done well and the team chemistry is right. In the home game against Italy, we can expect a different caliber of play. That’s why we look forward to a full house on October 6th. “
The Austrians will now face Team Italy on October 6 in Vienna in the first home game for Team Austria since the 2014 European Championship tournament. Switzerland travels to Milan, Italy to take on the Italians on October 20.
