Switzerland’s Calanda Broncos Launch International Series
The Calanda Broncos, winners of the Eurobowl title in 2012, are expanding their schedule in 2016.
On March 19, the defending Swiss champions head to Poland to face the Wroclaw Panthers. Then in April, the Broncos will play host to German semifinalists, the Allgäu Comets.
The Wroclaw Panthers, under head coach Nick Johansen, reached the Polish final in 2015 and are priming for another run at the Polish title. The Panthers will also be playing in the IFAF Europe Champions League tournament in 2016.
Head coach Brian Caler, in his eighth season at the helm of the Allgäu Comets, led his team on a surprising and impressive run at the German championship in 2015.
The Comets reached the semifinals where they were ousted by eventual champions the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions. However, they pushed the Lions to the limit, taking the lead twice during the first half.
Calanda has won six of the last seven Swiss titles and head coach Geoff Buffum, who is also the offensive coordinator for the Swiss national team, is priming his team for another defense of their title.
These international match-ups are sure to help the European football community understand the true strength of some of the top clubs in the national leagues of Switzerland, Poland, and Germany.
