Sunday will be somewhat historic in Switzerland as the SAFV – Swiss American Football Federation – has arranged for the very first livestream broadcast of a senior league football game in that country.
Actually two games are involved as the Swiss division II Thun Tigers will face the Luzern Lions in a clash of rivals at 2 PM. Earlier, at 11 AM, the two junior squads from Thun and Luzern will tangle.
According to Valérie Durussel, Director of Media Relations for SAFV, this is not completely new:
Livestream is not completely new in Switzerland. We introduced it first last year August 20-21, 2016 at the Swiss National Team try outs. We then broadcast a few U16 league games and the NFFL (National Flag Football League) final.
The commentator will be Neomie Pinkston, who is responsible for the SAFV Livestream. Our goal, when and if possible, is to redo livestreams English-Swiss German, in order to reach as many people as possible. Our livestream is at it s beginning stages and is therefore no competition for viewing games live as there is only one camera.
It is really aimed at people who cannot come to the game and/or the ones that want to first see what football is about before feeling secure enough to come to the game and being able to not only enjoy the atmosphere, but also the game.
