One of Europe’s top quarterbacks, Sweden’s Anders Hermodsson, winner of four Swedish championships and a European title with the Carlstad Crusaders, has signed to play for the Gold Coast Kings of Australia’s National Gridiron League (NGL) in 2016.
Hermodsson (6’5″, 250 lb) has also agreed to play for the Lazio Marines of the Italian Football League whose season finishes well before the Australian season starts.
Kirk Mastromatteo, head coach of the Gold Coast Kings and Director of Football Operations for the NGL:
“We are excited to get “Ders” as a part of the Kings and as well the NGL. He will have the opportunity to compete from day one with Jimmie Russel to be the guy in Gold Coast. We hope he flourishes as this will be the opportunity for him to compete at the highest level of American Football outside of North America.”
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Hermodsson started playing American football in 2004 for the Solna Chiefs. He played one season of college football at Ohio Northern University before returning to Sweden where he signed with Sweden’s top club, the Carlstad Crusaders in the Swedish Superseries.
Hermodsson has also been the starting quarterback for the Swedish national team since 2009 and played in the European Championship tournament in both 2010 and 2014.
In addition to his four Swedish championship titles and 2015 IFAF Europe Champions League crown, Hermodsson’s other accolades include winning the Swedish under 19 Championship three times, being named player of the year in the Swedish Superseries in 2014, and being recognized as the top quarterback in Sweden’s Superseries four times.
