Swedish lineman Sebastian Johansson Signs With San Diego Chargers

Although Swedish lineman Sebastian Johansson did not get drafted by one of the 32 NFL teams, it did not take long for the phone to ring after the draft was over. And it took even less time for his disappointment to vanish.

Johansson, who has spent three years playing for Marshall University and had attracted a great deal of interest after his pro day, fielded a number of calls from teams showing interest but chose the American west coast and the San Diego Chargers.

As he told his local paper in his hometown in Sweden

“San Diego has picked me up. I’ll go there for a week. Now you’re an NFL player.”

He went on to explain that so many things were happening all at once. He still had to phone his parents. According to him the Chargers are expecting him to earn a spot on the team. The team had signed 20 undrafted free agents in short order after the draft.

Next week, mini camps for all NFL teams get started. So Johansson has to get himself to San Diego without delay.

“They just called and asked about the airport, they’ll fix the tickets. As soon as I get all the information, I’ll go. I have a huge journey that will start now.”
