The Uppsala 86ers, Swedish finalists in 2016, have signed veteran quarterback John Rock for the 2018 season.
The 6’3″, 205 lb Rock, 28, from Springboro, Ohio, and a graduate of Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina (NCAA Div. I FCS) where he played for the Runnin Bulldogs, spent the 2017 season with the St Pölten Invaders in Austria’s Division 1 league helping the team to a 5-3 season. He has played quarterback for the Fontenay-sous-bois Météores from France’s Div. 1 in 2016, the Albershausen Crusaders (Germany), Bologna Giants in Italy’s top league, Denmark’s Triangle Razorbacks and the Samsung Frankfurt Universe in Germany.
According to Uppsala president Martin Söderberg, not only is Rock’s experience as a quarterback a valuable commodity but his coaching background as well was important. Rock was the wide receivers coach at Minot State University (NCAA Div. II)
It was important for us to get a player who can help with the development of our youth. John seems to be just such a leader type we need and hopefully he will remain in the 2019 season.”
