The Örebro Black Knights have announced the signing of British DL Lewis Minns for the 2024 Swedish Superserien season.
Since 2018, the 6’2, 260 pound 27 year old Minns has played for Great Britain’s Solent Thrashers who have been in the Premiership South division for the past two years.
Black Knights head coach Sam Eisenstadt:
“We are excited to have Lewis join us this season. He is looking forward to playing in our competitive Super Series league. He is fast off the ball and a very good pass rusher. Also, he is always trying to grow and get better as player. That is a great trait I am looking for in players and I believe he will have a great contribution to help us build a strong culture this season.”
Why did you decide to sign with the Black Knights?
Minns: I have loved the passion I have heard from the HC and the vision he has for the team this year! I have always had the personal goal to go and play football outside of the UK and now this has become a reality that I can’t wait to experience!
What are you most excited about?
Minns: Having a chance to experience more of what football has to offer and being part of a team with championship aspirations.
How will you contribute to helping build a great culture within the team?
Minns: I love the game of American football and have always brought that passion onto the field. I pride myself on hardwork and effort during every part of the game whether that be training, class room and most importantly game time. I always have viewed the game as a ultra competitive sport where I am constantly looking to improve not only myself but those around me. Because fundamentally American football is a team sport.
What do you love most about playing football?
Minns: How it’s such a team sport and building that family bond with your fellow brothers around you knowing that you will all be giving 100% effort to shut that offence down!
How long have you been playing football and what have been your greatest achievements?
Minns: So this will be my 11th season and I have played for the same team the previous 10 years (The Solent Thrashers). My greatest achievements have been so far winning the UK division 1 national championship and having an undefeated season that year, and also winning defensive MVP for the thrashers in 2018 & 2022. I have also been a captain for the last 2 seasons and before this time always viewed myself as an onfield leader.
