Sweden: Örebro Black Knights sign former QB Trevor Vasey as WR

The Örebro Black Knights of the Swedish Superserien have re-signed quarterback Trevor Vasey for the upcoming 2025 season but as a wide receiver.

The 31 year old Vasey will also serve as a backup to Swedish quarterback Viktor Ekberg who they signed recently. He has been the starting quarterback for the Black Knights for the past four seasons but has decided to switch his role and help mentor Ekberg.

While behind center for Örebro, Vasey put up impressive numbers. In 22 games, he threw for 5,028 yards and 53 touchdowns helping guide the Black Knights to the title in 2021, to the championship game in 2022 and to the playoffs in both 2023 and 2024. In 2021, not only was he the league’s passing leader, he was also named the Superserien’s Most Valuable Player.

With his size, 6-7, 220 pounds, Vasey will create difficult matchups for opposing defensive secondaries.

Before his time in Sweden, the native of Cumberland, Rhode Island spent part of the 2019 season in the German Football League with the Dusseldorf Panther after coming in partway through the year. He threw for 1,169 yards and nine touchdowns in the six games he started.

This is not Vasey’s first stint as a receiver as in 2017 he played for the Cologne Crocodiles (German Football League) when he caught 43 passes for 633 yards and six touchdowns. He originally came to Europe in 2016 as a quarterback for the Porvoon Butchers in Finland’s Maple League. He threw for 2,389 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 225 and another three touchdowns.

Vasey attended Worcester State (NCAA Division-III) in Massachusetts where he did not play until his senior season. In 2015 he ended with a 59.7 completion percentage and threw for 2,798 yards and 18 touchdowns through 10 games
