Sweden: Carlstad Crusaders sign veteran defensive back Davarus Shores
The Carlstad Crusaders of the Swedish Superserien have added American defensive back Davarus Shores.
For the well-traveled defender a chance to play for a contender in Sweden was intriguing:
“The goal is to win Swedish championship gold with Carlstad Crusaders and share with me the knowledge I have gathered during my long career as a player in American football.”
The 6’2″, 190 -pound defensive back has been playing abroad since 2017. Shores’ international career began in Germany suiting up for the Wiesbaden Phantoms in the GFL2. Following his season in Wiesbaden, Shores played for both the Olsztyn Lakers of Poland and the Langenfeld Longhorns of Germany in 2018. In 2019, the 29-year old played indoor football in Mexico, helping the Mexico City Mexicah win the league championship. The next year, Shores signed with the Ingolstadt Dukes of the German Football League only to have the COVID-19 pandemic cancel the season. The veteran last suited up this fall playing for “Team USA” in the ELF All-Star game.
The Mesquite, Texas native came to Europe after a five-year collegiate career playing for Southern Arkansas and Texas A&M Commerce (NCAA D2). After one season in Arkansas, Shores transferred to nearby Texas A&M Commerce, there, as a member of the Lions, Shores was a standout on special teams earning the conference special teams’ player of the week twice his senior season. He finished NCAA his career with 155 tackles, 12,5 tackles for a loss, three sacks, and three blocked kicks.
The Crusader’s new addition joins a Carlstad squad eager to get back to the championship game after winning the title in 2020. Carlstad also recently announced it will be competing in the Scandanavian cup as teams from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark prepare to square off against each other in a highly anticipated international competition.
