Sweden: Carlstad Crusaders sign championship-winning OL Matthew Daltrey

The Carlstad Crusaders, reigning Swedish champions, have announced the signing of top-rated offensive lineman Matthew Daltrey.

The 6-1, 280 pound, 28 year old native of Culbokie, Scotland has spent the last three seasons playing for the Vienna Vikings in the European League of Football. Playing center, he anchored an offensive line that led the league in yardage in 2024 and was among the top four in the previous two seasons. In 2022, with Daltrey in the lineup, Vienna captured the ELF title.

He arrived in Vienna after spending three successful seasons with the Helsinki Roosters in the Finnish Maple League. The Roosters won the title in 2019 and reached the final in 2021.

He was introduced to American football while a student at the University of Leicester and first played internationally for the Gießen Golden Dragons in Germany’s GFL2.

Head coach Christian Forsman:

“Matthew is another player we chased last year but he felt at the time that he had some unfinished business with the Vienna Vikings and wanted to play another season there in the hope of winning another ELF title. Offensive line is always a difficult position to recruit as there are many players on each team but the supply [of offensive linemen] is limited. To bring in a player who has started for 3 years in one of the absolute best teams in Europe feels very inspiring. I look forward to seeing what he can contribute in everything from leadership and experience to the level of play that he possesses.”
