Surprise stats leaders as Austrian Football League heads to midseason

Four games into the 10 games season, a pair of ASKÖ Traun Steelsharks players top two offensive categories as the Austrian Football League regular season heads towards the midpoint of the season.

The Steelsharks have yet to win a game this season.

The SonicWall Mödling Rangers top all teams with six players among the Top 5 in the four categories. Next up are the Dacia Vienna Vikings with four followed by the Traun Steelsharks with three. The Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants, Prague Black Panthers and Danube Dragons have two each while the Amstetten Thunder has one. Only one team has no players in the Top 5 in any categories – the league-leading and unbeaten Swarco Raiders.

John Uribe of the Traun Steelsharks is the passing yardage leader among all quarterbacks in the Austrian Football League with 1,015 yards and 10 TDs after throwing for 404 yards and 4 TDs in the game against the Modling Rangers. Graz Giants QB Jake Kennedy is 2nd with his 981 yards and 12 TDs while Austin Herink of the Dacie Vienna Vikings is 3rd. He has thrown for 959 yards and 12 TDs as well. Danube Dragons QB Chad Jeffries is the 4th leading passer with 912 yards while Sonic Wall Modling Rangers QB Raleigh Yeldell is 5th. He has thrown for 871 yards.

Receiving

Not surprisingly, Traun Steelsharks WR Mario Winter leads all receivers with 435 yards receiving while Bernhard Seikovits of the Vienna Vikings is 2nd with 366 yards. SonicWall Mödling Rangers WR Roman Namdar is the 3rd leading receiver so far with 337 yards and teammate Eugen Sumic is 4th. He has 337 yards. A third Ranger, Aanton Wegan, is 5th and has 323 yards and 4 TDs.

Rushing

Prague Black Panthers RB Herbert Gamboa leads all rushers after rushing for 204 yards last week in a big win over the Amstetten Thunder. Gamboa now has 545 yards and 5 TDs. Florian Wegan of the Rangers comes in at 2nd place with 483 yards while Danube Dragons QB Chad Jeffries (the only QB on the list) is 3rd with 318 yards. Florian Nohmayr is 4th with 293 yards while Ismaal Amadu of the Vikings is the 5th leading rusher. He now has 251 yards.

Tackles

Mödling Rangers LB Markus Bernas leads all tacklers in the Austrian Football League and now has 31 tackles after 5 games, averaging 7.8 a game. Graz Giants LB Thomas Schnurrer is 2nd with 29 tackles while Prague Black Panthers LB Karel Augusta is 3rd with his 24 tackles. Vikings LB Lucky Ogbevoen is the 4th leading tackler in the AFL while Martin Dorner of the Amstetten Thunder is 5th with 19.5.
