The Gold Coast Stingrays and Brisbane Rhinos square off the the Gridiron Queensland Sun Bowl XXXII Saturday.
The is the fifth time the Stingrays and Rhinos have faced each other in the championship game. The Stingrays won the previous four – (2006, 2008, 2011 and 2012). In fact the Stingrays are chasing their sixth straight title and their 10th in 11 years.
The Stingrays beat the Rhinos 19-7 in the only meeting this year between the two clubs.
Damien Molloy, head coach and quarterback for the Stingrays, played free safety for Australia in the 2015 World Championship. He is facing his quarterback from that team Jared Stegman who is behind center for the Rhinos. Stegman spent the 2016 season in Sweden with the Uppsala 86ers and helped his team to the Swedish championship final game.
His teammate on that team and also Team Australia teammate, Chiam James, has also been valuable in helping the Rhinos reach this year’s Sun Bowl. Both players are hungry after losing a tough battle in Sweden’s final to the Carlstad Crusaders.
