Still, the Griffins opened the scoring, taking an early 7–0 lead on the first drive of the game as running back Benjamin Gogaj Jernqvist found the end zone. But Renteria responded with touchdowns passes to Robin Gavelin-Miranda while Stedt then scored one on the ground to put the Mean Machines up 21–7 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Ottander boosted the lead to 27–7 when he scored his first ever touchdown in the Superserien. Hugo Backing added a 27-yard field goal to make the score 30–7 heading into the fourth quarter. Stedt and Ottander each rushed for another touchdown before Griffins defensive lineman Jonathan Johansson stormed right up the middle and blocked a punt at the Stockholm 30 yard line, scooped up the ball and bulled his way into the end zone to score the game’s final touchdown as the clock wound down.
With the win, the Mean Machines improve to 2-0 to top the Superserien standings.
This Saturday, Stockholm faces a real challenge when they take on the defending British champions, the Manchester Titans in the opening round of the Central European Football League.
