Spain’s leading scorers midway through 2018 season offer surprises

As the Spanish league heads into the second half of the season, let’s take a look at the players who made a difference for their teams in scoring over the four games played. The individual league touchdown leaders do not necessarily lead the top teams. The top passer plays for a 2-2 team while the leading rusher is a runaway leader for a team new to the league.

Passing

The surprise so far is that Gijon Mariners QB Marcos Martinez leads the Spanish league in passing touchdowns with 11. His team has a record of 2-2 and has scored a total of 96 points which means he has accounted for more than two thirds of the Mariners scoring. Las Rozas Black Demons QB Jason Gaines leads a group of three with 10 touchdowns thrown. Madrid’s Osos Rivas QB Gabe Losada and Badalona Dracs QB Sergi Gonzalo have also tossed 10 touchdown passes. Angel Clemente from the Murcia Cobras if fifth on the list with seven TDs thrown.

Rushing

Black Demons RB Marcos De La Mata is the runaway leader in rushing touchdowns midway through the season in Spain with nine. Next up from Osos Rivas is Jonatan Pan Gago with four. Murcia Cobras RB J.A. Sotomayor is right behind, also with four while Nayim Mohamed has three for the Valencia Firebats. Santurtzi Coyotes RB A. Gonzlez rounds out the top five with three TDs.

Receiving

Badalona Dracs WR Brandon Ravenel leads a trio of receivers with seven TDs each. He is followed by Gijon Mariners WR Hilario Lantaron and Murcia Cobras WR Cory Holmes. Clinton Greenaway from Osos Rivas has caught five touchdown passes while André Feuerherdt from the Black Demons also has five.
