Spain: Three teams stay unbeaten after 4 weeks

After four weeks of play in the Spanish American Football League, the defending champion Badalona Dracs, Madrid’s Osos Rivas and the LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons all remain undefeated.

In Badalona,the Dracs and Murcia Cobras faced each other in a rematch of the 2018 Spanish title game, but this time there was no exciting finish as Badalona used a second half surge to roll over the Cobras 49-26.

Dracs quarterback Hunter Correll threw six touchdown passes to five different receivers, Taylor Ekstrom (2 TDs), Javier Fernández (1), Raúl Cernuda (1 ), Guillem García (1 ) and Edu Morlans (1 ) in a game which saw Murcia stay within a touchdown (28-20) in the third quarter until Badalona pulled away. Cobras quarterback Adam Salvadori threw two touchdown passes to Cory Holmes and ran for another  in the loss.

Madrid’s Osos Rivas overwhelmed an undermanned Granada Lions team, blanking them 61-0 as starting quarterback Ryan Deal threw four touchdown passes and his backup Sergio Barbero tossed three while adding another on the  ground. Receiver Kevin Wiggins stood out, with three touchdown receptions.

The LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons secured a resounding 68-0 victory in Santiago de Compostela, against the Santiago Black Ravens with three touchdowns from American receiver Evan Altizer, two from Nacho Ortiz and two from running back Marcos de la Mata.

The fourth place team in the league, the Coslada Camioneross, handed the Valencia Firebats an 18-0 loss. Coslada was led by running back Alejandro Escribano who scored all three touchdowns and rushed for 89 yards.

In Fuengirola, in the televised match of the day on LaLigaSports, the Mallorca Voltors spoiled the party for the Fuengirola Potros  fans, whipping the home team 41-0. Voltors quarterback Craig Coffman threw six touchdown passes with receivers Carlos Vega (3 TDs), Miguel Salva March (2) and Marcos Javier Molina (1) the recipients of his scoring strikes.  With the victory, the Voltors consolidated a playoff spot, while the Potros are left with only one victory to their credit and in 10 place.

Finally, one of the new teams in the top league in Spain. the Zaragoza Hurricanes, celebrated their historic first ever win in the top division with an exciting 12-9 victory over the visiting Gijón Mariners. But it took until the very end of the game as Mexican import Alcides Benítez hauled in the winning touchdown pass with 10 seconds left on the clock. Benitez also scored the opening touchdown for Zaragoza. Mariners quarterback Marcos Martinez had scored his team’s only touchdown with four minutes left in the game to take the lead at the time. Sergio Andrés kicked a field goal to account for Gijon’s only other points.
