Theodore “Theo” Landers, a 28-year-old Canadian quarterback from Vancouver, has become a transformative figure in Spanish American football as the field general for the Las Rozas Black Demons.
For the third straight season, Landers will be leading his team into the playoffs as the favorite to win a title they have captured two times in a row with him behind center.
The 6-3, 200 pound University of Guelph Gryphons alumnus has redefined offensive excellence in Spain’s LNFA Serie A since joining the Madrid-based Black Demons in 2023.
Championship Pedigree
Landers immediately made history by leading the Black Demons to their first-ever Spanish Bowl championship in his debut season, completing an undefeated 2023 campaign that culminated in a 22-13 title victory over Osos Rivas. His 2023 performance included a league-leading 22 touchdowns (9 rushing, 13 passing), earning him recognition as Spain’s most dangerous dual-threat quarterback. The team re-signed him for 2024, a season that saw Landers throw 14 TD passes and add 7 rushing scores through May 2024.
Dual-Threat Dominance
Landers’ playing style combines pro-style passing acumen with running back athleticism. His 2024 semifinal performance against Badalona Dracs epitomized this versatility – he broke containment for a rushing touchdown while threading a crucial TD pass to receiver Jorge García-Valcárcel. This multifaceted attack helped overcome a Dracs team that averaged 43 points per game prior to their 15-point semifinal defeat.

Landers is optimistic heading into the semifinal matchup with the Terrassa Reds:
The season has been great. Although we have gone 8-0, I know that we as a team will not undersestimate our opponent. We trust in each other and our coaches to put us in the best position. This upcoming game against the Reds will be a fight. I think as long as we shut down Alpha [Jalloh], we give ourselves a very good chance of coming out victorious.
Offensive Architecture
The quarterback operates behind what Spanish media describes as a “steamroller” offensive line, enabling both his passing game and a potent rushing attack featuring RBs Daniel Romero and Dominic Hoffman. Landers’ chemistry with primary target García-Valcárcel (8 regular-season TDs in 2024) has become a cornerstone of the Demons’ offense. This balanced attack helped maintain a +119 point differential during their 2024-2025 mid-season campaign.
Big-Game Competitor
Landers thrives under pressure, evidenced by his 2024 Spanish Bowl appearance against Osos de Madrid – a rematch of their regular-season split where each team claimed one victory. His capacity to exploit defensive gaps through both air and ground attacks forced opponents to devote extra resources to contain him, creating opportunities for teammates.
Cultural Impact
As one of Spain’s premier import players, Landers has helped elevate the Black Demons into a perennial contender. The team’s back-to-back championship appearances (2023-2024) and continued dominance in 2025 position him as a potential architect of Spain’s new football dynasty. His success has drawn attention to Madrid’s growing football infrastructure, including the Vallehermoso Stadium that hosted key games.
Legacy in Progress
Entering the playoffs in his third season in 2025, Landers remains central to Las Rozas’ quest for sustained excellence. The Black Demons semifinal matchup against the Terrassa Reds is the next step in the Canadian signal caller’s hunt for a three peat.
