Spain’s Osos Rivas have signed veteran quarterback Rodney Brown for the 2022 season.
The 31-year-old American-German will provide excellent leadership for the club and at 6’2” and 216 pounds, he is a strong presence in the pocket.
Brown is returning to Europe after a four-year absence, partly due to the pandemic. He played for the Bolzano Giants in 2018, throwing for 1,669 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 444 yards and six touchdowns. He posted an impressive 15:4 TD/INT ratio and took Bolzano to the Italian championship game that season. In 2014, playing wide receiver for the Turku Trojans in Finland’s Maple League, he caught 37 passes for 641 yards and eight touchdowns. He also returned 18 kickoffs for 554 yards and one touchdown. The year before, his first in Europe, playing for the Seinäjoki Crocodiles (also in the Maple League), he threw for 988 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 275 touchdowns and two scores. The versatile Brown hauled in 18 passes for 338 yards and five scores and returned three punts for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
After playing as a wide receiver in high school, Brown played at Bluffton University (NCAA Div. III), and then converted to quarterback at Harper College.
Between 2014 and 2016, Brown played arena football for the Chicago Blitz, Chicago Slaughter and Chicago Thunder.
Needless to say, the seasoned play caller, is excited to be suiting up for Osos Rivas in Spain:
“I had an opportunity to sign here with Osos Rivas this season. I think we were both on the same page as far as ultimate goals come, which is simple… win a championship. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to play all over Europe and I wanted to experience a new country and new things before my career is over.”
