The Badalona Dracs were merciless this past weekend when they demolished the LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons 47-6 to capture their fourth consecutive Spanish title and 10th overall.
With the win, Badalona has now gone unbeaten in 26 games against Spanish teams, a streak that stretches back to April 1, 2017.
The Dracs took a 27-6 halftime lead and continued the onslaught in the second half, cruising to the win.
Quarterback Hunter Correll was superb and was named Game MVP for his performance after throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for another in the rout. Wide receiver Taylor Ekstrom caught two touchdown passes while Raul Cernuda caught the other two. Running back Javier Fernandez scored one and Jordi Soler scored on a fumble recovery.
For Las Rozas, Daniel Sanz scored on a 100 yard fumble recovery late in the first half.
Badalona took charge immediately as Correll hit Ekstrom for a touchdown on his first pass and the Dracs took a 6-0 lead. Badalona defensive back Terrell Woods recovered a Black Demons fumble on the next series and Correll made them pay racing into the end zone to give the Dracs a 13-0 lead.
Black Demons quarterback Trenton Jones was knocked out of the game early and young David De Diego took the reins and immediately had a punt blocked which Badalona recovered on the 11 yard line. Fernandez barged his way into the end zone and Badalona increased the lead to 20-0 early in the second quarter.
Correll then connected with Ekstrom late in the quarter to boost the score to 27-0 and looked to score again with little time left in the half when Sanz picked up a fumble by Cernuda when it looked like he was going in to score again and raced 99 yards the other way to reduce the lead to 27-6 and give the Black Demons hope.
However, Correll extinguished that hope, connecting with Cernuda midway through the third quarter and the lead was then 33-6.
Although Jones had returned to the game, the Black Demons still sputtered and a bad snap in the end zone was recovered by Soler to move out to 40-0 and then Cernuda wrapped up the scoring hauling in his second touchdown pass of the game from Correll late in the game to make it 47.6.
The celebrations began.
