Serbia: DT Richard Simmons joins the Belgrade Blue Dragons for the 2018 season
The Belgrade Blue Dragons have bolstered their defense by signing massive defensive tackle/offensive guard Richard Simmons.
Belgrade finished in fourth place in the Serbian league in 2017 with a 4-3 record.
Simmons, 6’3’’, 315 pounds, was a four-year letterman at Nathan Bedford Forrest High School in Jacksonville, Florida and then played college football at both Grossmont College in San Diego and ASA College in Brooklyn NY. He started on both sides of the ball as an offensive guard and defensive tackle.
Simmons:
“When I got the call I was excited to get to work. Coach laid out a plan, the plan makes perfect sense. I am here to play football and be an ambassador of the game. This is a great opportunity for me to further my playing career.”
Coach Fayed is excited to have him as well and had this to say
“We are pleased to have such a talent like Richard, not only with his physical ability on the field but he brings an attitude with him that we need. He has a fire, non stop motor. We think he is one of the several missing pieces that can help us bring the championship home to the Dragons den.”
After finishing his college career, Simmons joined the Florida Falcons of the Gridiron Developmental Football League. The GDFL was a professional developmental league spread throughout the United States, which hosts some of the best talent in the country. Quickly he became a key contributor for the Falcons at both offensive guard and defensive tackle. Earning All GDFL First Team All American for the Falcons.
Fayed:
“We had a good season but it’s not good enough. This team is a championship caliber football team. They deserve it, they have worked for it. Our goal is win the title, to be the best in Serbia. We are confident that Richard can help us achieve that goal.”
Blue Dragons President Nikola Davidovic is excited as well:
“I think we just signed a great athlete who will be a dominant figure in our defensive line and great character on and off the field. We need a big strong body and smart player up front so we can control the line of scrimmage. This is a great scouting effort by our Head Coach and we can’t wait to have Richard on the field wearing the blue.”
