The Serbian national team overcame a stubborn Team Turkey 14-7 Saturday in a defensive battle at FK Mašinac Stadium in Niš, Serbia.
This was the second win for Serbia in a week. Team Serbia defeated the Pro Hunt Athletes team 14-0 last weekend in Belgrade.
Serbian quarterback Mladen Zlatić threw a touchdown pass to Miloš Kolibar and Goran Zec blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown late in the game to account for Serbia’s scoring. Darko Klasan kicked both extra points.
Ozan Oskan scored the lone touchdown for Turkey on a five yard reception.
Defenses ruled as neither team could gain any momentum for much of the game.
Serbia opened the scoring in the first have with Zlatić finding Kolibar from two yards out.
Two series later Turkey recovered a Serbian fumble deep in Team Serbia’s territory and three plays later, Oskan hauled in a five yard touchdown pass to tie the game a 7-7.
With neither team able to move the ball in the second half, Serbia’s special teams rose up. Goran Sec, who had been close all game, blocked a Turkish punt on Turkey’s 30 yard line and scooped up the ball and raced into the end zone for the winning touchdown.
