Finland’s Seinäjoki Crocodiles have announced the signing of quarterback Zachary Whitehead for the 2021 season.
The Crocodiles reached the Finnish Maple League semifinals in 2020, losing to the eventual champions, the Kuopio Steelers.
The 6′, 200 pound, 24 year old Whitehead from Hockessin, Delaware, most recently played in 2018 for the Regensburg Phoenix in Germany following a stellar career at King’s College (NCAA D3).
Whitehead on heading to Finland to join the Seinäjoki Crocodiles:
“Everyone has been so welcoming already and I cannot wait to join a first class organization like the Crocodiles. I am ecstatic to get to work with the guys and bring a championship to Seinajoki!”
He finished his career at King’s College holding every passing record in the college’s history after throwing for 6,003 yards and 41 touchdowns, while running for 26 more scores during his collegiate career. Whitehead was named All-Conference in both his junior and senior seasons.
Seinajoki agreed to terms with Whitehead after the postponement of the season in Finland forced the team’s original quarterback for this upcoming season, Jon Brown, to drop out.
The Maple League season is scheduled to kick off June 11 with the Crocodiles set to host the Wasa Royals.
