Rhein Fire re-sign veteran DB and interception leader Omari Williams
The Rhein Fire of the European League of Football have re-signed veteran defensive back and three-time ELF champion Omari Williams for a third consecutive season.
Williams has been a key component of Fire head coach Jim Tomsula’s defense since joining the team in 2022. With Williams in the secondary, the Fire have won the past two ELF titles. The 28 year old has recorded 176 tackles and 10 interceptions with the Fire in his three seasons with the team and been named to the ELF All Star team each year.
Before signing with the Fire, the 6-1, 200-pound defensive back was a key part of the Frankfurt Galaxy’s championship defense in 2021, snagging three interceptions while recording 29 total tackles, one forced fumble, three pass breakups, and six passes defended.
With a total of 13 interceptions in 45 ELF games, Williams shares the all-time interceptions crown with Goran Zec
Before joining the European League of Football, Williams played for the Dresden Monarchs in the German Football League in 2019. He was a standout player for the Monarchs that season, tallying 49 tackles and 10 interceptions (tied for the league lead).
Prior to heading to Europe, the Birmingham, Alabama native spent four years playing at Samford University (D1 FCS). His senior season, Williams was a 1st All-Conference selection registering 64 total tackles, three interceptions, and 11 pass breakups.
Following his college career, Williams spent time with the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars as part of two rookie minicamps.
