According to the Los Angeles Times and other sources, the LA Rams will be playing a regular season game in Mexico City in 2018.
The Rams have played games in London in each of the past two seasons, winning one, a 33-0 shut out of the Arizona Cardinals in 2017, and losing a 17-10 decision to the New York Giants the year before.
Since the Rams move to Los Angeles they have been playing “temporarily” at the LA Coliseum. Their move to LA apparently included a requirement that they give up a home game each year for a neutral site until their new stadium opens.
In fact, the NFL requires teams playing in temporary facilities to play one “home” game as a part of the league’s International Series. The Rams are scheduled to play at the Coliseum through the 2019 season before moving into a new Inglewood Stadium.
The Rams’ opponent in Mexico City will come from its pool of home opponents, which were announced last week.
The Rams home opponents are NFC West division members — the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks — and the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles.
The Rams (11-5) won the NFC West, and they play host to the Atlanta Falcons (10-6) on Saturday in a wild-card round playoff game at the Coliseum.
The NFL’s International Series featured five games in 2017, four in London and one in Mexico City.
