PREVIEW: Sweden v. Denmark; Minja Reinstated and Relegation Implications

Sweden & Denmark meet to decide 5th place of the 2014 Eat The Ball European Championship in Vienna

PREVIEW

– Vienna, Austria

[su_dropcap]I[/su_dropcap]nteresting news has been announced that  Swedish safety Philip Minja may play the match tomorrow against the Danes. He was ejected in the last match against Germany for  leading in the head or targeting. The hit in question can be seen in the photo above this article. The referee committee has gone through the game sequence on film, and found that the expulsion was the wrong call, and an in turn the Executive Board decided that expulsion should not hold additional penalty.

Minja, who a captain and starter for Sweden, was sent off after just 3 and 1/2 minutes of action in the Germany game and could have affected gameplay fs he was around for the entire match. Unfortunately refs make mistakes, and there is nothing that can be done now besides the reinstatement of Minja for the match against the Danes.

The match against Denmark will be played Friday night at 7:00 pm CET / 1:00 pm EST at the Ravelin Football Centre. It’s a pretty modest stadium and home to the Vienna Warlords.

Unfortunately, the match will not be streamed on television to tune into Twitter of the Swedish national website and/or SFN to follow the match. Sweden is the home team and have decided to play with yellow shirts. The Danes will play in red.

This game does hold some implications as winner ends in fifth place and stays among the Europe’s top six ‘Group A.’ The loser faces possible relegation and must compete in the next ‘Group B’ tourney to earn a spot at the next European Championships.
