The GLS Ancona Dolphins make their home debut against the Ferrara Aquile
Hopes are high as the GLS Ancona Dolphins play their first home game of the season against the visiting Ferrara Aquile, after beating the Rome Grizzlies last Sunday in Rome. The Dolphins are playing in a new stadium with a new coach and new imports, which will trigger the interest of many Ancona fans.
The new “home” of the Dolphins – the Oval Ball – is a brand new facility and perfect for hosting American football. There will be free parking, a great sound system, live commentary, referees miked, cheerleaders and a terrific atmosphere.
Ancona, with new quarterback Luke Zahradka (309 yards passing last week, three touchdowns) behind center and ex-NFL linebacker Nic Harris roaming on defense as well as playing offense and special teams, defeated the Rome Grizzlies last week 37-14 while the Aquile lost a tough game to the Bologna Warriors 28-23.
The Dolphins have dominated the lifetime series between these two clubs winning seven of the 10 games they have played each other over the years. The last time these two teams met was in the opening game of the 2014 season, and the Dolphins had no trouble whipping Ferrara 40-2 that day.
This year the Aquile will rely on Italian quarterback Nicolò Willo Scaglia, arguably the best Italian pivot in Italy. The Dolphins will have to find a way to stop Scaglia’s number one target though, Serbian wide receiver Ivan Pavlovic who at 6’5″ and 220 lbs is a beast.
