Prague Black Panthers win 6th straight Czech Bowl
The Prague Black Panthers soundly defeated the Ostrava Steelers 30-7 to capture Czech Bowl XXV, to win their sixth straight Czech league title and eighth overall.
Behind a two-touchdown performance by game MVP, running back William Young, the Black Panthers took a 16-7 halftime lead and then added two fourth quarter scores to win going away.
Quarterback Jan Dundáček also scored two touchdowns while Marek Hruboň kicked four extra points and the defense forced a safety.
For Ostrava, quarterback Steven Wilken scored a touchdown in the second quarter with Lukáš Dlouhý kicking the PAT.
Young opened the scoring and stunned the Steelers, breaking off a 73 yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Dundáček capped a long drive early with a 14 yard touchdown run to give Prague a 14-0 lead.
Wilken pulled his team to within a touchdown by finding a seam and scoring from the four yard line to make it 14-7 for the Black Panthers.
Then the Prague defense asserted itself, trapping the Steelers in their own end zone for a safety upping the lead to 16-7 at the break.
Neither team could find the end zone in the third quarter but Dundáček broke free for a 41 yard touchdown run to open the fourth quarter to increase Prague’s lead to 23-7. With the Black Panthers defense now holding Wilken and the Steelers in check, Young finished off the scoring, plunging in from the four yard line with four minutes left to seal the win.
This was the second year in a row that Prague has beaten the Steelers in the Czech title game. They downed Ostrava 28-0 to win the 2017 championship game. For Black Panthers head coach Daniel levy, this marks his second national title in the space of a year. He won the Brazilian championship in 2017 guiding the Belo Horizonte Sada Cruzeiro to the title.
