The Wroclaw Panthers, 2016 Polish and Champions League champions, have signed quarterback Timothy Morovick for the 2017 season.
Timothy Morovick (6’2″, 210 lb) joins the Panthers after spending the 2016 campaign with the Albershausen Crusaders in Germany. Morovick played for Ottawa University (Kansas, NAIA) but is not the first player from that school to play in Poland. He joins Clarence Anderson who played for the Warsaw Eagles in 2011 and Shane Gimzo who also played for the Eagles the following year, 2012.
Wroclaw enjoyed a season to remember in Poland in 2016 winning the Polish championship by defeating arch rivals the Gdynia Seahawks and then capturing the Champions League title in a thrilling win over Italy’s Milano Seamen.
With the reduction in the number of imports in Poland this season, the signing of Morovick at the quarterback position gains even more importance.
Panthers head coach Nick Johansen is pleased with the signing:
“Tim will be a great fit into the Panther offense. He has shown the ability to throw all passes we will ask of him and can run when we need him. Offensive talks have been on going the past months and we are excited to get started in 2017.”
American Football International asked Tim about his decision to sign with the Panthers and his thoughts on playing in Europe.
AFI: How did you end up signing with the top team in Poland and one of the best in Europe?
Timothy Morovick: When my season in Germany ended. I made a list of the top 10 teams that I wanted to play for because I knew they had great coaches, a great program, and an offensive system that fit my style of play. The Wrocław Panthers were at the top of that list and so I reached out to them first.
AFI: How much did you know about football in Europe or the rest of the world before playing in Germany?
Morovick: I knew a little about football overseas before playing in Germany. After playing in Germany and talking to other import players I feel I know quite a bit about it now.
AFI: What did you expect before arriving in Europe?
Morovick: I really didn’t expect much before coming to Europe. I was just looking forward to playing football and seeing parts of the world I never have before. Afterwards I am amazed at how football in Europe has grown and I highly recommend it to everyone.
AFI: How much traveling were you able to do this past season?
Morovick: I traveled to Paris, France and various parts of Germany. I look forward to seeing a lot of Poland as well as other parts of Europe this time out.
AFI: Do you have any favorite foods?
Morovick: In Germany they had this type of sandwich called a “Kehbab”. That was my favorite thing to eat when I was there.
AFI: What do you think you can bring to the Panthers?
Morovick: What I am bringing to the Panthers is strong QB play to fit their offensive style of having a mobile QB. I will bring leadership and help lead this team to become back to back Polish National Champions.
AFI: What are you looking forward to?
Morovick: I’m looking forward to finally playing for a great coach and an American coach at that. I’m just ready to play football again. That’s the main thing I’m looking forward to. The traveling and seeing the world is always a bonus but most important is the game of football.
AFI: Any last things you would like to mention?
Morovick: The Wrocław Panthers are a great program with great coaches and great management. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the people in charge and the city of Wrocław. I’m very excited about this opportunity. After all this was my number 1 choice and it worked out!
