Poland: Tychy Falcons sign DB Darius Lewis
The Polish Football League runner-ups, the Tychy Falcons, have signed veteran defensive back Darius Lewis.
Head coach Augie Stevens is excited to have an experienced playmaker in his secondary:
“Great teams start with great people, and my biggest priority was to find a high-quality human who would reflect the championship mindset I’m building here with the Falcons – that’s exactly what Darius brings. He’s a man of high character who wants to make a positive impact in the community beyond football and I’m excited to empower him to do that here in Tychy.”
Most recently 5’9″ defensive back spent the past two seasons in Sweden helping the Carlstad Crusaders win back-to-back championships. During the 2020 campaign, The Gaithersburg, Maryland native recorded 24.5 tackles along with 4 tackles for loss and a pick. In the title game, he led the Crusaders with 5.5 tackles including 5 solos and a sack.
Prior to arriving in Sweden, the 27-year-old was a two-year starter at Northern Arizona (NCAA D1 FCS) where he amassed 117 tackles. His international resume includes stops in Germany (Straubing Spiders, Albershausen Crusaders), Ukraine (Uzhgorod Lumberjacks), Turkey (Koc Rams), and Hungary (Budapest Wolves). During his time in Europe, Lewis has collected five total championships in Sweden, Hungary, Germany, and Turkey.
Falcons head coach Augie Stevens on Lewis’s role in Tychy:
“He’s conquered a lot of Europe in a short time and now I’m very pleased to turn an elite athlete like him loose on the Polish league. We’re counting on him to be an excellent mentor for our skill players, defensive backs, and especially young players.”
