Poland sets schedule for shortened 2020 season

Poland’s Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego, LFA,  has set the final schedule for a “post lockdown coronavirus shortened” 2020 season with a kickoff on September 5.

The league will wind up with a championship final November 14.

In its last act before the new federation in Poland, the American Football Association in PolandZFAP (Związek Futbolu Amerykańskiego w Polsce), takes over as the fully-recognized governing body of Polish American football, the LFA is organizing a season of top division football along with a lower division.

The LFA had suspended all activities in mid March at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Wroclaw Panthers, Tychy Falcons, Warsaw Mets, Bialystok Lowlanders, Silesia Rebels and Bydgoszcz Archers will all play in a seven week season with a semifinal round and championship final on November 14.

Another lower division – LFA9 – will play in a 9 man league involving 15 teams.

Current COVID-19 numbers in Poland

There have been a total of 52,410 cases of COVID-19 recorded in Poland since the outbreak of the pandemic with 1,809 deaths attributed to the pandemic.
