Poland: Bialystok Lowlanders sign LB Alvin Reels
The Bialystok Lowlanders of the Polish Football League have signed veteran linebacker Alvin Reels for the 2022 season.
The experienced defender is thrilled to be a part of the Lowlander’s squad.
“This was probably the smoothest offseason I’ve had in my career. I had a number of offers but I had been talking to Lowlanders for about a month. I already knew the President of the team Piotr we had talked in the past before and I trusted him. Coach Baker also made me feel welcomed and like Białystok was a perfect fit for me. The organization is well respected and one of the top teams in Poland so I was – blessing to receive an opportunity like this.”
The 6’1 235-pound linebacker joins his sixth international team this season. The 27-year-old began his pro career playing in Brazil for the Timbo Rex squad. Following his time in Brazil, the Detroit, Michigan native opted for Europe joining the Budapest Wolves of the Hungarian Football League. As a team captain for the Wolves, Reels won the league’s defensive player of the year award, as Budapest claimed the 2018 national title.
The Hungarian league standout then moved on to Germany playing for the Straubing Spiders of the German Football League’s second division. With the Spiders, Reels made 57 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, four sacks, one safety, four interceptions, one blocked punt, and three defensive touchdowns. Most recently, the well-traveled tackler spent the 2021 season with the Porvoon Butchers of Finland making 35 tackles, six tackles for a loss, two sacks, one interception, three pass breakups and one forced fumble.
Before beginning his international career Reels played college football at William Penn University (NAIA) for four seasons, before spending his final collegiate season at Dakota State University (NAIA). His senior year he started at middle linebacker and earned all-conference honors.
The veteran defender joins head coach Troy Baker and a Lowlander’s squad looking to get back in the playoffs and make a run at the championship in what looks to be a wide-open Polish Football League next season.
