As reported by NFL Draft Diamonds, Patrick Donahue who played with the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns in Germany last season and was a teammate of German wide receiver and Minnesota Vikings draftee Moritz Boehringer, has been picked up by the Green Bay Packers.
With this and the drafting of Boehringer and Australian Adam Gotsis (Denver Broncos) by NFL teams as well as the signing of other international players, 2016 is turning out to be a banner year for players from international leagues and other countries.
Donahue played alongside Boehringer for the Unicorns in 2015 in Germany and actually surpassed his numbers at the other wideout spot. He caught 75 passes for 1,353 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2015 as compared to 59 receptions for 1,232 yards and 13 TDs for Boehringer. So far in 2016 in the only game he has played he scored a touchdown while grabbing six passes for 84 yards.
After initially playing for the Lubeck Cougars in the German second division in 2014 where he led that league in receiving, Donahue moved up to the Unicorns for the 2015 season.
The 5’11”, 195 lb Donahue left Germany last week and will attend Packers rookie mini camp which is scheduled for either May 6-8 or May 13-15.
