Offenses dominate Portuguese American Football week 4 action
The Portuguese American Football Federation, LPFA, wound up its fourth week of action last weekend and the favorites continue to pull away. The new Portuscale Dragons along with defending two-time champions the Lisboa Devils and the Algarve Sharks all posted lopsided wins.
Portuscale Dragons 77 – 0 Évora Eagles
The Eagles played their second game of the season and they suffered their second defeat and still haven’t been able to score any points. On the Dragons side they get their third straight win and their first shutout of the season. Head coach and QB Awal Umaru was the main figure of the game. The Eagles offense improved from game 1 (against the Devils ) and was able to get some first downs however they couldn’t score any points.
Algarve Sharks 31 – Paredes Lumberjacks 0
With both teams playing their second game of the season but with the Sharks coming of a win in Braga and the Lumberjacks coming from a loss in Porto, this game was highly anticipated. The Sharks however dominated the game and were able to shut down the Lumberjacks team. The main players for the Sharks were CJ Jones that scored three touchdowns and the newly comeback John Holloway that scored a rushing touchdown and also got 10+ tackles, one interception and showed that he is here to play. Also a big note for the first ever field goal in Sharks history made by kicker Bernardo Agapito.
Lisboa Devils 41 – Braga Warriors 3
In Braga, we had the most disputed game of the week. In the first half the Warriors were able to keep the Devils in check by running down the clock and preventing their “power offense” to get into the field, making them only having 3 offensive drives. They were able to move down the ball but never got into the end zone with the Devils defense always making a stance.
At halftime the score was 7-3. However, in the second half the Devils showed why their offense has been one of the best in recent years and put up 28 points. All those points came on rushing touchdowns by Juzz Tiny (2), Kyle Nolan (1) and Willian La’Prado (1). In the last quarterback Kyle Nolan sent his second touchdown pass of the game to Pedro Flores on a 80 yard touchdown pass. In the first half he had already connected with Bruno Pereira. The kicker for the Devils was rookie André Figueiredo who made three of six extra points.
