- Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers: $52.5 million
Herbert signed a new long-term contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason. The Chargers’ quarterback agreed to a five-year, $262.5m contract extension. The deal makes Hebert the NFL’s highest-paid player. He will average $ 52.5m per year. The 25-year-old led the Chargers to the playoffs in 2022 for the first time, losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wildcard round, 31-30.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson isn’t far off Herbert and is the NFL’s second-highest-paid player. The 26-year-old signal-caller joined the Ravens in 2018 as the No 32 overall pick. In 2019, he won the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award. Jackson is one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in the league. He previously won the Heisman Trophy at the University of Louisville.

Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl in 2022. There, the Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-35. Hurts was drafted by Philly in 2020 No 53 overall out of the University of Oklahoma. The quarterback exploded in 2022, with a 14-1 record and over 3,700 yards in total passing. Hurts threw a career-high 22 touchdowns.

The 2022 NFL season wasn’t the best for Russell Wilson. After 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson arrived in Denver looking for a fresh start. However, Wilson’s 16 touchdown passes were the fewest he had thrown in during his NFL career. He also took a career-high 55 sacks.

Former NFL Draft No 1 pick Kyler Murray is the fifth-highest-paid player in the NFL for 2023. The Arizona Cardinals took Murray in the 2019 draft out of the University of Oklahoma. It didn’t take Murray long to make a name for himself in the league. He earned the 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Murray took the Cardinals to the playoffs in 2021 with a 9-5 regular season record. Murray suffered a torn ACL toward the end of the 2022 NFL season and missed the final six games of the campaign.
