It was a game of two 2-7 teams when the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers met at Allianz Arena in Munich Sunday afternoon and it showed. Both teams struggled moving the ball consistently and relied on their special teams to give them an edge in the field position battle.

The game started with a pair of punts before the Panthers opened the scoring in the 1st quarter with a five-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Young to Ja’Tavion Sanders. Carolina booted a 53 yard field goal early in the second quarter to go up 10-0. The rest of the quarter saw four punts, a missed field goal, and an interception. A lot to clean up indeed.

The Giants successfully found the end zone in the 3rd quarter on a 32 yard touchdown run by running back Tyrone Tracy. The Panthers replied immediately with another touchdown, this time by the player of the game, running back Chuba Hubbard. Two more punts closed out the quarter.

With the Giants down by 10 when the fourth quarter started, there was definitely a sense of urgency on the New York sideline. Jones responded marching his team on a 96 yard scoring drive, capping it himself with a two yard touchdown.

Both teams then turned the ball over. First Carolina fumbled the ball and then Jones tossed another interception. Neither team could convert the turnovers into points however. Three punts later, the Giants managed to kick a game tying field goal sending the game into overtime.

New York won the coin toss and elected to receive. But the joy of winning the coin toss in overtime was short lived as Tracy fumbled the ball away on the first play. Three short runs by Hubbard set up the game-winning field goal by Panthers kicker Eddy Piñeiro.
