The sun was sweltering as the Munich Ravens torched the Barcelona Dragons 39-9 at Estadi Olímpic de Terrassa in Barcelona this past weekend as the European League of Football wound up its fourth weekend of play.
In a game that featured two of the best quarterbacks of the ELF it was a running back, Tomiwa Oyewo, who really stood out from the pack. The Irish-Nigerian had two athletic and speedy touchdown runs to go along with a long receiving touchdown. Oyewo continued to gash the Dragons all game, allowing Chad Jeffries to find receiving targets easily when he needed to. This Ravens offense has been absolutely cooking all year, putting up at least 38 points in every game so far in 2023, and the scoring did not stop against the Dragons.
Munich QB Chad Jeffries threw for 195 yards and 1 TD.
On the other side of the ball, it was the opposite story. The Ravens completely stifled the Dragons rushing attack, which led to Conor Miller having to try to save this Dragons offense through the air once again, and this week much like last week, it did not work out. The Ravens forced two fumbles (one leading to a touchdown), and one interception on Miller, which ultimately decided how this game turned out. A lot has to be said about the field position battle in this one as well. Throughout the first three quarters, the Dragons were almost always within their own 10-yard line to start their drives, and without a rushing attack, it was basically impossible to move the ball. The Ravens offense moved the ball enough, and when not scoring, Munich punter, Robert Werner, was able to pin the Dragons deep.
The Dragons have a much-needed bye coming up next week after two straight losses, giving them some rest before they start their long stretch to the end of the season.
In week 5, Munich will face off against the undefeated Stuttgart Surge, which should be one of the games of the week. The Surge held one of the better offenses in the European League of Football, the Raiders Tirol, to three points this past weekend, so it will be entertaining to see if they can contain Munich’s high-scoring offense. For sure, some must watch TV!
