The Milano Seamen have made their first major roster addition of the offseason, as the team announced the signing of American running back Patrick Carr.
Originally from The Woodlands, Texas, Carr was considered a four-star recruit coming out of high school before he began his collegiate career at the University of Colorado in 2015. In his true freshman season, he rushed for 272 yards on 66 carries. He then transferred back to his hometown area following the season and joined the University of Houston Cougars. He had his best season there in 2018, in which he rushed for a team-leading 868 yards and five touchdowns on 152 carries. In his final collegiate year in 2019, he was hampered by injuries and only rushed for 380 yards and four touchdowns in just six games.
Following the 2020 NFL Draft, Carr was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent. However, he could not appear in any preseason games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and ultimately spent the that season on Seattle’s injured reserve list.
Carr signed with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League in 2021, but did not see game action with the team. He was released in January 2022, and has not played professional football since.
Milano finished in the middle of the pack last season in rushing production. Their running game was a decent complement to their strong passing game, but a weak defense sunk the team to a 2-10 finish. The departure of quarterback Luke Zahradka to the Frankfurt Galaxy, will no doubt force the Seamen to focus more on their ground game in 2024. They still need to find their quarterback, as well as some defensive playmakers, as they look to improve upon their debut ELF season under the leadership of new head coach Jim Ward.
