In the final game of Mexico’s Liga de Futbol Americano (LFA) weekend, the Raptors improved their record to 2-0 by dominating the second half and rolling over the Condors 46-26 in Mexico City.
After falling behind 12-0 in the first quarter, the Raptors, led by quarterback Bruno Márquez outscored the Condors 46-14 the rest of the way.
Márquez threw two touchdown passes and ran for another while running back Dan Avila ran for two more and defensive back Fernando Ramírez took back an interception for a touchdown. Wide receivers Iván García and Manuel Barrios each hauled in a touchdown pass while the defense forced a safety and Felix Guerrero kicked a field goal.
Condors quarterback Jose Chavez threw two touchdown passes, both to Andres Salgado and running back Luis Lopez scored two touchdowns, the first and last scores for the team.
The Condors opened the game impressively moving out to a 12-0 lead on touchdowns by Lopez and Salgado. But Márquez led his team back in the second quarter mixing up his play calling, carrying the ball himself to close the gap to 12-7. After Salgado scored his second touchdown increasing the Condors lead to 18-7, Márquez went back to work. With the Raptors defense stepping up forcing a two-point safety, the offense scored twice more in the first half, giving them a surprising 23-18 lead at the break.
The Condors switched quarterbacks as Diego Perez replaced Chavez in the second half but to no avail. The third quarter was dominated by the Raptors as Avila scored racing around left end and then Ramírez picked off a Perez pass returning it all the way and the Raptors had firm control of the game, 37-18. Avila added another touchdown in the fourth quarter running the lead to 44-18 before Irving Alamilla scored a consolation touchdown for the Condors with six minutes left in the game.
Guerrero kicked a 25 yard field goal with two minutes left to seal the win.
The Raptors now boast the second best offense in the LFA while Márquez is the leading quarterback having thrown for 487 yards in two games.
