The Raptors de Naucalpan of Mexico’s Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional have re-signed veteran quarterback Bruno Márquez for the 2023 season.
The 6’3″ 190-pound native of Mexico City, Mexico will be back for his seventh season and his sixth with the Raptors and will be looking to get the final piece missing from his resume, a championship. In 2021, he was very close to leading Naucalpan to their fourth Tazón México appearance, and their third in a row, but they lost to the eventual champion, Fundidores de Monterrey, in the semifinals in the “Monterrey Miracle.”
Last year with the Raptors, the 33-year old signal caller led the league with a 62.5% completion percentage, throwing for 1,152 yards and nine touchdowns. With Marquez behind center, the Raptors had the highest scoring offense in the league scoring 137 points in total.
Before going pro, Márquez played for the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (ONEFA) from 2009-2013 where he won two national championships and was awarded ONEFA player of the year in his senior season. He then spent the next several years away from football and instead worked as a business marketer.
When the LFA started up in 2016, he was signed by the Condors CDMX and even though the team finished 1-5, he had a good season leading the young league in passing yards and completion percentage. In 2017, he would sign with the Raptors de Naucalpan, where he had an immediate impact and throughout his time with the organization, he has cemented himself as the most prolific quarterback in league history, leading the league in passing yards three more times, leading in completion percentage four more times, winning two MVPs and playing in two Tazón Méxicos.
