Mexico: LFA Game of the Week – Dinos de Saltillo @ Galgos de Tijuana, March 26, 7 pm (9 pm ET, 03:00 am CET March 27)
The league-leading Dinos de Saltillo (3-0) travel to Tijuana Saturday night to take on the cellar dwelling Galgos de Tijuana (0-2) as Mexico’s Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional reaches the midpoint of the season.
This matchup is as lopsided as it gets on paper, but the hometown Galgos hope to shock the whole country in pursuit of their first win of the franchise, against the top team in the league, the Dinos.
The Dinos are coming off an excellent 24-10 victory against the Gallos Negros where they forced five turnovers, coming from three interceptions, a fumble, and a blocked punt. This resulted in a 14-point victory for the Dinos and left them as the only undefeated team still standing for the season, with a remarkable 3-0 record.
With a victory against the Galgos, the Dinos would become the first team to clinch a playoff spot and improve to 4-0 on the season, positioning them as the hands-on favorite to win the Tazón Mexico. If they get to that record, the Dinos would become the second team in league history to start off 4-0, with the first being the Condors CDMX in 2020. If their dominance goes any further into the season, the Dinos could be looking at securing a first-round bye, and maybe if they are fortunate the next couple of weeks, could become the first ever undefeated regular season in LFA history.
The Galgos on the other hand are coming off an embarrassing 10-0 loss to the Reyes. While the final score itself doesn’t look as bad at face value, all 10 of Jalisco’s points came during the first quarter, and for three quarters the team failed to respond to their opponent. Thanks to this performance, and their blowout loss against the Gallos Negros, the Galgos have currently the lowest scoring offense in the league, only scoring nine points total over the course of their first two games.
Tijuana knows they are heavy underdogs in this matchup, but they are hoping that with their backs up against the wall, playing at home, it will be the third time’s the charm and they will be able to hand the Dinos their first loss and get the upset of the season so far. A win could also spark new life into the Galgos season, changing the narrative as more than likely the only team this season to miss the playoffs, to being a real playoff threat for higher seeded teams.
