Mexico: College football season heats up as Week 5 produces plenty of action
In the ONEFA Major League, several games stood out this week as the season reaches the midpoint.
Borregos Monterrey had an easy win against Borregos Guadalajara, claiming victory with a score of 33-0. Águilas Blancas visited Toluca, defeating Potros UAEM with a solid score of 31-7. Tigres UANL, playing their first away game, traveled to Mexico City to triumph over the Linces UVM by a score of 42-10.
In a Puebla showdown titled “Battle for Puebla Supremacy,” Borregos Puebla proved their mettle by defeating the Aztecas 34-8. Pumas UNAM CU was the only local team to win, securing a 29-14 victory against Borregos CCM. Notably, all visiting teams in the BIG-14 Conference won their games.
The surprise of the week came from Pumas Acatlan, who staged a late-game rally but were narrowly defeated by UAMN Leones with a close score of 28-21. Unfortunately, Pumas Acatlan, led by quarterback Johan López, fell short in their final drive. Brandon Niebla #1 was a standout for Pumas Acatlan.
In the Conferencia Nacional, there were exciting intergroup clashes as the Conferencia Bajio took on the Conferencia Norte. The Indios de UACJ faced Leones Anahuac in Querétaro, securing victory in the final play with a score of 21-20. In Puebla, Halcones UV won a thrilling encounter against Lobos BUAP by a score of 13-9. Aguilas UACH traveled to Irapuato, defeating the Cardinals and maintaining their unbeaten streak with a score of 32-6.
In another tight contest, Potros ITSON narrowly won on the road against Arkansas St’s Redwolves, clinching a 13-12 victory. Lobos ULM hosted Cimarrones de UABC and were defeated 24-14. The game between Zorros CETYS and Borregos Qro was intense, with the locals claiming a close 17-15 win.
The game of the week was a thriller, with Lobos UAC narrowly winning 38-35 against Tecos UAG, in a matchup filled with takeaways and numerous lead changes.
